Verification is Stripe’s way of checking that each connected account belongs to a real and legitimate business or individual. It is required by law and prevents fraud, money laundering, and misuse. Stripe may ask for personal identification, proof of address, business registration documents, or bank statements.
Restriction happens if the verification is incomplete, outdated, or if Stripe detects discrepancies in the account information. While restricted, payouts are paused until the venue provides the required information. This does not mean funds are lost, they are simply held securely by Stripe until compliance checks are completed. Restrictions are rare but important to resolve quickly to avoid payout delays.
